Two Suspected Robbers Remanded as Police Pursue Two Others After Robbery Incident at Mallam Junction

The Amanfro District Police Command, under the Weija Divisional Command, has arrested two suspected armed robbers in connection with a robbery incident that occurred at Mallam Junction in the early hours of Thursday, October 16, 2025. The suspects, identified as Stephen Amoani, aged 42, and Osei Antwi, aged 30, were apprehended following swift action by the Police, who responded to intelligence about a robbery operation in progress.

According to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, four men were reportedly attacking passengers at the location when the Police arrived. Upon sighting the Police, the suspects attempted to flee. Three of them were arrested on the spot, while one, identified as Kofi Sammy, who was allegedly wielding a pump-action gun, managed to escape.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of several items believed to be stolen, including a cutlass concealed on suspect Osei Antwi, a black Honda CR-V with trade plate number DV 3145-2025, three yellow gallons of akpeteshie, a bag containing GH₵12,055, and three mobile phones — a Samsung A05, an iPhone 16, and an Itel Android phone.

However, one of the arrested suspects, Kwame Mike, later escaped from Police custody after requesting to use the washroom. The officer who escorted him has since been invited for questioning as part of ongoing administrative investigations.

On October 20, 2025, suspects Stephen Amoani and Osei Antwi were arraigned before the Weija Circuit Court, where the facts and charges were read and explained to them in the Twi language, which they understood. Both pleaded not guilty and were remanded into Police custody to reappear on November 10, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Police have intensified efforts to apprehend the two suspects currently at large, identified as Kwame Mike and Kofi Sammy, to assist in investigations. All retrieved exhibits have been secured for evidential purposes, and the impounded vehicle remains in Police custody for further examination.

The Accra Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and security and urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement by providing credible information that could aid in ongoing investigations and help prevent crime across the region.
