Tema Police Secure 15-Year Jail Term for Two Men in Rape and Robbery Case

The Tema Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of two men who attacked, raped, and robbed a young woman along the Apollonia–Afienya road late last month.

The disturbing incident happened on September 27, 2025, at Okushibli, when a 19-year-old hairdresser hired a motor rider, Nicholas Tetteh, to take her to Afienya.

Police say the rider conspired with two accomplices, including Joseph Tetteh, to assault the victim. On the way, she was dragged into a nearby bush, where two of the men allegedly raped her before taking off with her iPhone XR and handbag containing GHC 150.

The traumatized victim later reported the case to the Zenu-Atadeka Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU). Officers quickly launched investigations, issued her a medical form for treatment, and later arrested the suspects.

Both Nicholas Tetteh and Joseph Tetteh were arraigned before the Gbetsile Circuit Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Eleanor Kakra Barns Botchway. They pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and were each handed a 15-year jail sentence with hard labour.

Police say the two will face the court again on separate rape charges once the Attorney-General’s Office provides its legal advice.

ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs at the Tema Regional Police Command, commended the swift investigation and reassured the public of continued efforts to ensure justice for victims.

“The Police assure the public of our continued efforts to ensure justice for the victim and maintain public safety,” ASP Dzakpasu stated.

The Command also urged the public to report all forms of violence and criminal activity promptly to help make communities safer.
