Controlled Spillage of Weija Dam to Begin Amid Rising Water Levels
Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced plans to begin the controlled spilling of excess water from the Weija Dam due to a steady rise in water levels following recent rainfall.
In an official communication addressed to the Managing Director of GWL and copied to relevant management personnel, the Regional Chief Manager, Mr. Charles K. Tulashie, emphasized the need to protect the structural integrity of the dam and safeguard lives and properties in downstream communities.
According to Mr. Tulashie, the Weija Dam has been experiencing a gradual increase in water level, which if left unchecked, could pose a significant risk. “Failure to commence immediate controlled spilling may result in compromising of the structural integrity of the dam,” he warned.
