SPEAKER BAGBIN DEFERS COMMENCEMENT OF THIRD MEETING OF NINTH PARLIAMENT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced the deferment of the commencement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic. In an official notice issued from his office on Monday, October 6, 2025, the Speaker stated that the decision was necessitated by circumstances beyond his control. “Pursuant to the notice to summon Parliament dated 29th September, 2025, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the commencement of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic is deferred until further notice due to circumstances beyond my control,” the statement read. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has officially announced that the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic will commence on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. In a notice issued from the Speaker’s office in Accra on September 29, 2025, it was stated that proceedings will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Parliament House. Speaker cracks down on MPs, ministers over offices of profit

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has directed all Members of Parliament (MPs), ministers, and deputy ministers to regularize their positions regarding offices of profit or emolument within 14 days. According to the Speaker, some MPs and ministers have allegedly been accepting appointments to various boards, committees, and external positions without seeking permission, which is a constitutional requirement. "The Constitution is clear on this matter. Article 98 of the Constitution is a constitutional imperative. The suspension of four Members of Parliament (MPs) by the Speaker of Parliament has been welcomed by some citizens in the Hohoe Constituency of the Volta Region. Mr Alban S.K Bagbin suspended the four MPs from attending parliamentary sittings for two weeks, effective Friday, January 31, 2025. Mr Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, on Tuesday warned Members of Parliament (MPs) that any involvement in illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, will face severe repercussions.  ".... Honourable members, galamsey must be confronted head on. If any of you happen to be involved in galamsey, please advise yourself. You must be prepared as a house to bite the bullet.
