GES Declares March 7 a Holiday for Schoolchildren

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that all schools across the country will be closed on Friday, March 7, 2025, granting schoolchildren a well-deserved holiday following the Independence Day celebrations. In a press release issued on Wednesday, GES explained that the decision was made to allow students to rest after their rigorous preparations for Ghana’s Independence Anniversary activities. “Schools will resume fully on Monday, March 10, 2025,” the statement read, urging parents and guardians to take note of the announcement. Community members, school children urged to join hands against FGM

Mr James Twene, Acting Upper East Regional Director of the Department of Gender has urged community members and school children in the Widana community in the Pusiga District to join the fight against the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). According to him, FGM is an outmoded cultural practice, dehumanising and posed significant sexual and reproductive health implications on victims and society underscored the need to end the practice to enhance inclusive and accelerated development.
