President Akufo-Addo orders security agencies to clamp down post-election disturbances

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the security agencies to work assiduously to clamp down on the disturbances following Ghana's recent December 7 General Election. The rule of law should prevail, he cautioned. "Those who might contemplate using violence to achieve their aims should know this. A total of 43,503 people in Oforikrom constituency fail to vote in the December 07 elections  

A whopping number of 43,503 registered voters in the Oforikrom constituency in the Ashanti region, failed to exercise their franchise during the December 07 general elections.   This represents 37.35 per cent of the 116,455 registered voters who were expected to vote in the elections.   On the elections day however, a total of 72,952 people came out to cast their ballot to elect their Member of Parliament and a President for Ghana.   Of this, 356 ballots were rejected by the Electoral Commission (EC), leaving 72,596 valid votes cast during the elections.   Mr Michael Kwasi Aidoo, a first-time applicant on the ticket of the NPP, was elected as the new Member of Parliament for the constituency.   He secured 47,709 of the valid votes...
