Lawra constituents appeal to President Mahama to appoint MCE

The people of Lawra Constituency have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a Chief Executive for the Lawra Municipality without further delay to propel the development of the municipality. They said the development of the municipality had faced a major setback following the prolonged absence of a substantive Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) after the demise of the former MCE, Alhaji Adams Muazu. The late Alhaji Muazu died in June 2025 following a protracted illness shortly after he was sworn into office in April 2025, but the Municipality is yet to get a replacement, which had heightened frustration among many constituents. Mr Justice Gaanu, the Presiding Member (PM) of the Lawra Municipal Assembly, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that ongoing proje...

NPP Condemns Arrest of Abronye, Accuses Mahama Government of Political Harassment

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned the arrest and detention of its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as “Abronye,” describing it as part of a growing culture of political harassment under the current administration. Abronye was arrested by the police after allegedly insulting the Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu. The NPP, in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the move represents a worrying pattern of intimidation and suppression of dissenting voices by the John Mahama-led government. The party lamented that eight months into President Mahama’s administration, state security agencies have been “weaponised not to fight galamsey or protect citizens from rising insecurity, but to tar...

NDC needs courageous and relentless cadres like Jakpa-Desmond Darko

Mr Desmond Darko, a National Democratic Congress stalwart in Accra has eulogised Mr Richard Jakpa as courageous and relentless man that can inspire members to stand firm in the face of challenges.  “If Ghanaian politics had a comic book, Jakpa would be its caped crusader- minus the cape....”  He described him as a man with the guts of a true soldier.   “While others dabble in polite complaints and half-hearted protests, Jakpa stands firm, eyes blazing, calling out his opponents like a seasoned general spotting enemy manoeuvres.  “Where the NDC sees complexity, he sees opportunity; where the opponent hopes for meek compliance, he delivers defiance.   “They plotted, schemed, and even tried to throw him in jail, thinking confinement would tame the ...

Bryan Acheampong: “Stop twisting my words”

The campaign office of Dr. Bryan Acheampong has cautioned the public against mischief on the man who is doing his best to change the political narrative of the country. A statement copied to the GNA in Accra said opponents “mischievously edited” a video circulating on social media, which falsely portrayed the Presidential hopeful as blaming former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the Kusasi-Mamprusi conflict. The team clarified that Dr. Acheampong’s original remarks referred to Dr. Bawumia as a “victim of circumstance”-not a cause of division. The campaign team emphasized Dr. Acheampong’s continued respect for Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and his role in promoting peace. The statement also addressed the broader political context, noting that tribal tensions were deliberately...
