Ministry of Education Mourns Loss of Seven Lawra SHS Students in Tragic Canoe Accident
The Ministry of Education has extended its deepest condolences to the families of seven students from Lawra Senior High School who tragically lost their lives in a canoe accident on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
The incident occurred when ten members of the school’s cadet corps, reportedly engaged in a routine morning jogging exercise, attempted to cross the Black Volta River near Dikpe into neighboring Burkina Faso. Their canoe capsized mid-river, resulting in the deaths of seven students—five girls and two boys. Three students were rescued.
