Police arrest eight Foreigners for Illegal Gold Exploration and Trading in Bono Region

The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested eight foreign nationals for engaging in illegal gold exploration and purchasing without a licence at Wewe, a community near Banda in the Bono Region. The suspects, identified as Sayuba Ziba, Kienu Dobou, Osman Tunabu, Nana Alhassan, Wadrago Abdulai, Aliu Sali, Ibrahim Wulba, and Alhassan Imoro, are nationals of Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and The Gambia. According to the Police, the arrests were made on Thursday, October 2, 2025, after sustained intelligence and surveillance on the group’s activities. The NAP, a major government initiative, seeks to address youth unemployment, close the skills gap, and promote economic growth. Banda Assembly announces death of District Police Commander    

The Banda District Assembly in the Bono Region has announced the death of Police Superintendent Kofi Oduro Amponsah, the Banda District Police Commander.  According to Mr Peter Dongi, the Banda District Chief Executive, the late Supt Amponsah, 56 years, died after a short illness.  He described him as a very kind man and hardworking. Mr Dongi gave the announcement when addressing the First Ordinary General Meeting of the Ninth Assembly held at Banda-Ahenkro, the district capital. He said the district would remember the late police commander for his instrumental role towards the peaceful conduct of the 2024 Election in the area, saying “in fact Supt Amponsah served the district with dedication and commitment, and his passing will be deeply felt by all”. Mr Dongi conveyed the assembly’s symp...

President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to take his nationwide “Thank You Tour” to the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions. Police arrest 13 Burkinabes at illegal mining site in Banda  

The Police Service has arrested 13 foreign nationals at an illegal mining site in the Banda District of the Bono Region.According to the police, the suspects, all Burkinabes, were arrested at the mining site at Banda-Weima in the district, between 0740 hours and 1100 hours on Thursday May 22, 2025.Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Victor Samadji, the Banda District Police Crime Officer, confirmed the arrest and told the Ghana News Agency that the suspects had since been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).When contacted, the Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) Daniel Tabi, Staff Officer and Head of Intelligence, Banda District Command, GIS, said the suspects had been sent back to the Savannah region.“We warned them not to be seen in the area again,” he state...

The Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Area, Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, 73-years-old, has been elected to represent the Bono East Region on the Council of State.  He secured 11 votes out of the 22 valid votes cast in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission in Techiman, the Bono East Regional capital on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.  Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour, a-65-year-old engineer, also had seven votes, with Pastor Michael Kwasi Amponsah, 40 years, obtaining four votes.  In all 11 people contested the elections in the region.  In his acceptance speech, Pimampim Kagbrese V, also a former President of the then Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, expressed appreciation to the people of the region for the confidence reposed in him.  ...

A total of 124 applicants vie for MMDCE in Bono Region

Jubilant supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) thronged the Bono Regional Office of the party to observe the live-telecast of the swearing-in of the President-elect John Dramani Mahama and his Vice Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang amid sporadic sparking of firecrackers. Sheikh Umar Abdul Kadir Coulibaly, the Bono Regional Chief Imam, has passed on, and left the Sunyani Muslim Community in a state of mourning, as scores celebrate the festive season.Mr Jacscot Hawkins Alhassan, the Bono Regional Secretary for the Council of Zongo Chiefs, confirmed it to Ghana News Agency (GNA) and added that the death happened on Wednesday evening of December 25, 2024.Describing it as a shock and bad news, he said the late chief Imam died at his private residence in Sunyani.
