Striker Kwame Poku rejoins Kumasi Asante Kotoko

JUST IN: Asante Kotoko announce the return of Kwame Poku

Kumasi Asante Kotoko, one of the Ghana Premier League’s most prominent clubs, has announced the return of striker Kwame Poku on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
The 27-year-old forward, who previously had a successful stint with the Porcupine Warriors during the 2020/21 season, is set to don the number 31 jersey as he aims to reignite his career and bolster Kotoko’s attacking lineup.

Poku initially made a significant impact at Kotoko, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 16 appearances, which earned him a high-profile move to Algerian side USM Alger.
Following a less fruitful spell in Algeria and a stint at Moroccan club Olympique Khouribga, the former Nkoranza Warriors player has returned to the Ghana Premier League with a renewed focus.

Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum expressed confidence in Poku’s abilities, stating:

“Kwame is a player who has grown tremendously since his first spell here. His time in Algeria and Morocco has sharpened his skills and added to his experience. He’s a proven goal scorer and creator, and I’m confident he will bring a lot of quality to our squad.”

Poku himself shared his excitement about rejoining Kotoko, saying:

“It’s a great feeling to be back at Kotoko. This club has always felt like home to me, and I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success. The support from the fans has been incredible, even during my time away, and I’m ready to give everything on the pitch to make them proud.”

The signing is subject to medical and international transfer clearance. Poku’s return is expected to strengthen Kotoko’s push for success in both domestic and continental competitions.
