SDA launches 75th anniversary celebration in Tamale

The Northern Ghana Mission of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church has launched its 75th anniversary celebration in Tamale.

The anniversary is to reflect on God’s faithfulness, unite past and present members, engage the wider community, and foster partnerships with key stakeholders.

It will span a period of six months and feature a series of strategic activities focused on worship, community impact, and legacy building.

It is under the theme: “75 Years of Mission: Advancing Faith, Transforming Communities”.

The launch was preceded by a health walk through some major streets of Tamale to raise awareness and garner support for the celebrations.

Pastor George Kossi-Ekao Amouzou, President, Northern Ghana Mission of SDA, delivered a sermon during the launch, which was based on the celebration’s theme quoting 1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

The 75th anniversary marked a significant milestone in the Northern Ghana Mission’s journey of faith and service, recognising its role in promoting both spiritual and social development in the area.

As part of the celebration, the Church is undertaking a legacy project, which is the construction of a multipurpose women’s training centre in Tamale.

The centre aims to empower women through holistic training in health education, vocational skills, Biblical and leadership development, and counseling services for vulnerable and abused women.

Pastor Amouzou paid tribute to the pioneers, whose efforts laid the foundation of Adventism in northern communities including Elder Moses Kwabena Kuma Okone, Henry Rieseberg, Johannes Onjukka, James Kofie, Dennis Mochiah, Emmanuel Sarpong, and Robert Kwaku Abebrese amongst others.

He said “Today, we stand on the shoulders of these pioneers. The Northern Ghana Mission is now a thriving field with numerous congregations, schools, a hospital, and growing influence in health, education, and spiritual revival.”

He emphasised the Mission’s impact on families, villages, and institutions, noting the transformation witnessed over the years.

Pastor Amouzou called on the Church to prioritise the training and deployment of Bible workers to every district and unreached community.

He further called for expansion in educational and health services and adoption of media ministry, youth empowerment, and church planting to sustain the Mission’s work.

He said “As we launch this 75th anniversary celebration, let us renew our commitment to faithful labour. You may not always see the fruits of your labour immediately, but God has assured us that our labour is not in vain.”
