Russian Ambassador Summoned Over Alleged Cybercrime Incident Involving Supposed Russian National

The Government of Ghana has formally summoned the Russian Ambassador following concerns about the alleged unlawful online activities of a supposed Russian national accused of publishing explicit images of Ghanaian women without their consent.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana, the Ambassador of the Russia to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov, was invited on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, on the instructions of the Foreign Affairs Minister. The meeting aimed to officially convey the government’s strong displeasure over the alleged conduct, which authorities say violates Ghanaian laws and raises serious privacy and cybercrime concerns.

During the discussions, the Ambassador acknowledged the gravity of the situation, particularly the impact on victims’ privacy and dignity, and indicated that the Russian Federation is willing to cooperate with Ghanaian authorities to help ensure justice is served.

However, Ambassador Berdnikov noted that he could not confirm whether the individual at the center of the controversy is actually a Russian citizen. He also stated that the name circulating in some media reports does not appear to be a genuine Russian name and may instead be an inappropriate or vulgar expression in the Russian language.

He further disclosed that similar alleged activities linked to the individual have reportedly surfaced in other countries and are currently under review by Russian experts. The Embassy, he added, is prepared to share any relevant information with Ghanaian authorities to assist ongoing investigations, despite the absence of a formal extradition treaty between the two countries.

The Ministry has reassured the public that it will continue to rely on Ghana’s longstanding diplomatic relations with Russia and explore all available international legal avenues to ensure accountability and justice in the matter.
