The management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (RIDGE) has reacted to a viral video circulating on social media concerning an accident case that was brought to its Emergency Department.
According to a statement signed by Ms. Juliana Haruna, Head of Public Relations at GARH, the incident occurred when relatives and friends of the accident victims invaded the emergency triage while clinicians were attending to other critical cases. Their overwhelming presence, the hospital explained, disrupted the smooth delivery of care, created unnecessary tension, and even endangered healthcare workers.
“In the process, one of our dedicated nurses was assaulted. This unacceptable act resulted in a temporary halt in service delivery,” the statement noted.

The hospital said management quickly called in the Ghana Police Service to restore calm, after which clinicians continued to provide the necessary medical care to patients.
GARH strongly condemned the assault, stressing that the safety and well-being of its staff and patients remain a top priority. It reminded the public that any form of aggression or interference towards hospital staff is unacceptable, as it hampers healthcare delivery and endangers lives.
The statement further cautioned against recording or sharing videos and photographs of patients and clinicians without consent, describing the act as a breach of privacy and hospital regulations.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the hospital assured the public of its unwavering commitment to delivering quality and timely healthcare. It called for cooperation and mutual respect from patients, relatives, and the general public to enable clinicians to serve effectively in a safe environment.
