Former First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has cut sod for the construction of a new Girls’ Dormitory Block at Wesley Grammar School, marking a major step in expanding infrastructure for female students at the historic institution.
The brief but symbolic ceremony, held in November, brings renewed hope to the school community as the project forms part of strategic investments aimed at improving accommodation and educational support for girls.

In a statement reflecting pride and purpose, Mrs. Akufo-Addo noted that the initiative is not only an investment in the school’s present female population but a commitment to the future of her alma mater.

“The Girls’ Dormitory Block represents an investment in our girls and in the future of this great school,” she said. “As we prepare for the school’s 70th Anniversary in 2026, may this project inspire generations to come.”
The upcoming 70th Anniversary celebration in 2026 has sparked alumni-driven initiatives to revitalize and strengthen the school’s facilities.
School authorities and old students have welcomed the project, expressing optimism that better dormitory space will create a safer, more structured learning environment, especially for girls who board from distant communities.

The construction of the new dorm block, once completed, is expected to serve both current and future cohorts, while also standing as a legacy milestone in the school’s anniversary year.
The initiative adds to a series of projects being championed by stakeholders who hope to use the 70-year celebration to amplify educational opportunities and inspire excellence within the school.
