The new Ghana Premier League season officially begins on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with President John Dramani Mahama set to perform the ceremonial kick-off ahead of the opening fixture between Accra Hearts of Oak and debutants Hohoe United.
The President will be joined by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, members of the Executive Council, and thousands of football fans from the capital, as the curtain rises on what promises to be one of the most thrilling campaigns in recent years.
Accra Hearts of Oak, powered by fresh signings and an impressive pre-season, will be determined to break their four-year streak without an opening-day win. Standing in their way is Hohoe United, making their first-ever top-flight appearance and eager to announce themselves on the big stage. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm (19:00 GMT) under the floodlights.
The evening’s action begins earlier at 4:00 pm, when the Black Starlets (U-17) take on Auroras FC, Hearts of Oak’s youth team, in a curtain-raiser.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, Afro-dancehall superstar Stonebwoy (Livingstone Etse Satekla) will electrify the crowd with a live performance, blending music and football for an unforgettable opening night.
With traditional powerhouses, ambitious newcomers, and revitalized clubs all chasing glory, the 2025/26 Premier League season is set to deliver months of excitement, drama, and unforgettable football moments.
