The Ghana Police Service has intensified its nationwide crackdown on illegal mining (galamsey) operations. From March 2025 to date, the Service has conducted a series of targeted operations in communities affected by illegal mining activities.
So far, 208 suspects have been arrested, including eight (8) Chinese nationals. In the course of these operations, police have retrieved eighty-five (85) excavators and three (3) bulldozers believed to have been used in the illegal mining operations.
Notable among the efforts is a special anti-galamsey operation in the Western Region, particularly at Samreboi, along the Tano River, Wassa Dunkwa, Tigarikrom, and surrounding communities. During these operations, fifty-eight (58) suspects — fifty (50) Ghanaians and eight (8) Chinese nationals — were apprehended.

Regional Police Commands across the country are continuing with coordinated efforts to clamp down on galamsey activities, protect natural resources, and ensure the safety and security of affected communities.
The Ghana Police Service urges the public to support its operations by providing credible information that can lead to further arrests and recovery of equipment used in illegal practices.
