The Bono East Regional Police Command has returned a bag containing GHS 85,000 to its rightful owner after it was discovered along the Techiman–Kumasi highway.
According to police reports, the bag was spotted at about 4:20 a.m. on February 14, 2026, near a police snap checkpoint in Techiman. Officers on duty noticed the bag lying by the roadside, suspected to have fallen from a moving vehicle. The bag bore the name “Ofori” along with a phone number.
The officers, led by George Appiah, retrieved the bag and later discovered it contained a large sum of money. It was subsequently forwarded to the regional command for verification and further investigation.

Police contacted the number written on the bag, and a 53-year-old businessman, Stephen Ofori from Kumasi, confirmed ownership. He later reported to the checkpoint and explained that the money had been transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle.
The cash was counted in his presence and confirmed to total GHS 85,000. After further checks and satisfactory verification, the police officially released the money to him.
Police spokesperson Appiah Danquah commended both officers and members of the public for their honesty and cooperation, noting that such actions help build public trust and strengthen community policing efforts.
