Police Restore Calm in Adoagyiri After Violent Clashes Between Youth Groups

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed that calm has been restored in Adoagyiri following violent disturbances involving rival youth groups in the area.

According to police, the chaos erupted on Thursday, May 22, 2025, when approximately 300 youth took to the streets, blocking roads, burning tyres, and vandalizing shops and vehicles. The disturbances followed a series of violent incidents that have left at least two people dead and several others injured.

A re-enforcement team comprising officers from the National Police Headquarters and the National Formed Police Unit was swiftly deployed to contain the situation. Authorities have since brought the violence under control and restored peace to the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the unrest stemmed from a shooting incident that occurred on May 20, 2025, in Adoagyiri. The shooting resulted in the death of one individual and left another injured. In what appears to have been a retaliatory attack, three more people sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Tragically, one of the victims of the reprisal attack, identified as Isaah Masawudu, later died at the hospital. His death reportedly triggered the violent protest by youth from the Adoagyiri Zongo community, escalating tensions in the area.

Speaking on the incident, ASP Foster Owusu of the Eastern South Regional Public Affairs Unit confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest all individuals involved in the violence.

“We would like to urge everyone to remain calm as we continue to ensure law and order at Adoagyiri and the surrounding communities,” ASP Owusu said in a statement.

The police have assured residents of heightened security presence and committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice to prevent further unrest.
