Calm has returned to the town of Sampa in the Bono Region after a violent clash between two rival groups, Sammordua and Samgba Gyafla, left parts of the main market in flames and several people injured on Sunday, October 5.
The Bono Regional Police Command confirmed that officers were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call about heavy gunfire between the factions. The confrontation reportedly led to the burning of several stores in the busy market area.
Police personnel, who rushed in to restore order and escort a Ghana National Fire Service tender and an ambulance carrying a pregnant woman to the hospital, came under fire during the operation. Their service vehicle, with registration number GP 686, was forced off the road into a ditch amid the exchange of gunfire.

Several officers sustained injuries and were taken to the Sampa Government Hospital. According to police sources, seven officers have since been treated and discharged, while one officer, who suffered a head injury, has been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further medical care.
Authorities say patrols have been intensified in Sampa to ensure peace and security in the area. The Bono Regional Police Command has assured residents that efforts are underway to identify and arrest all those involved in the violence.
“Calm has been restored, and our teams are maintaining a strong presence in the area. We urge the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate with the Police as investigations continue,” said Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command.
The cause of the clash between the two factions remains under investigation.
