The Upper East Regional Police Command has begun investigations into an incident in which a police officer was physically assaulted by a commercial tricycle rider at Garu in the Upper East Region.
According to a police statement signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumaila of the Public Affairs Department, the incident occurred on October 6, 2025, when a team of police officers and Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) were conducting a stop-and-search operation along the Garu–Nakpanduri road.
During the exercise, the team intercepted a tricycle loaded with sacks of groundnuts and passengers seated on top. When the officer on duty instructed the rider to stop and park properly for inspection, the suspect reportedly became aggressive and attacked the officer.

The rider subsequently fled the scene after the assault, leaving behind the tricycle and its passengers.
Police say efforts are currently underway to track down the suspect and ensure he faces the full rigours of the law.
The statement reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to ensuring law and order in the region and cautioned the public against attacking officers performing their lawful duties.
