The Accra Regional Police Command has initiated a comprehensive investigation into multiple violent incidents and assaults that occurred during the Ablekuma North Parliamentary re-run elections held on Friday, July 11, 2025.
According to an official statement released by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the police have begun analyzing several video recordings from the polling stations. These videos are being scrutinized to identify individuals involved in acts of violence, intimidation, and other forms of misconduct during the election.
Statements have already been taken from complainants and witnesses, while the police continue to follow up on critical leads. Superintendent Obeng assured the public that arrests will soon be effected as the investigation progresses.

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure justice, the victims of the incidents have been issued Police Medical Report Forms to support their treatment and documentation of injuries.
In a significant development, a police officer who was captured on video assaulting a journalist at one of the polling stations has been interdicted and is currently facing criminal charges for assault.
“The Accra Regional Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to upholding the law and ensuring accountability for all who engaged in unlawful conduct during the elections,” the statement read. “We encourage members of the public to support investigations by sharing credible information through our emergency lines 18555 or 191.”
The Ablekuma North re-run has drawn national attention due to the reported violence, with stakeholders calling for swift justice and measures to prevent such incidents in future elections. The police have assured the public of transparency and diligence in handling the matter.
