POLICE ARREST MAN FOR STAGING HIS OWN KIDNAPPING WITH DUCK BLOOD

The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Benjamin Owusu, for faking a robbery and kidnapping attack at Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City.

According to police, the incident began on 3rd September 2025, when a complainant reported receiving a text message from Owusu claiming he was under a robbery attack at his residence. When officers rushed to the scene, they found no trace of him. However, blood stains were discovered on the floor of his bedroom, raising suspicions that he had been harmed. Samples of the stains were collected and sent to the Police Forensic Crime Lab for testing.

Investigations later revealed that Owusu had abandoned the SIM card used to send the distress message. He eventually replaced the card and made phone calls traced to Elubo in the Western Region on 5th September 2025. Forensic results further showed that the blood stains found in his room were not human.

Police intelligence eventually led to Owusu’s arrest at his hideout in Akatamanso, Ashanti Region, on 24th September 2025. During interrogation, he confessed to killing a duck and using its blood to stage his disappearance. He explained that he orchestrated the fake kidnapping because he could not account for money belonging to his employer.

Owusu is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court after investigations are completed.

The Central East Regional Police Command has commended all stakeholders who assisted in the arrest and has warned the public against similar actions, stressing that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.
