POLICE APPREHEND SUSPECT IN CONNECTION WITH TAXI DRIVER ROBBERIES AND MURDERS IN GREATER ACCRA

The Ghana Police Service, through the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has arrested a suspect believed to be connected to a series of violent robberies and murders targeting taxi drivers within the Greater Accra Region.

The suspect, identified as Peter Akakpo, alias Dompe, was apprehended on 13th October 2025 at Kasoa-Domeabra following weeks of sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance. His arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into multiple attacks on taxi drivers, particularly within the Odorkor enclave, which have led to the deaths of two drivers at Sakaman Blue Lagoon on 9th May and 15th June 2025, respectively.

According to a statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, the AARU initiated investigations into the incidents after the gruesome killings were reported earlier this year. Intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of another suspect, Vincent Gbetorglo, on 30th June 2025.

Subsequent investigations established that Gbetorglo had been in communication with Akakpo, whose mobile number was found to have been linked to both deceased victims. Further intelligence traced Akakpo to a room rented by Gbetorglo at Kasoa-Domeabra, where he was eventually arrested.

The Police disclosed that Akakpo, an ex-convict, is currently in custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to retrieve the vehicles belonging to the murdered drivers.

The Ghana Police Service assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and maintaining public safety. The Service also urged the public to remain calm and continue to support police investigations by providing timely information that could aid in curbing criminal activities.

The Police further indicated that updates on the investigation will be communicated in due course.
