The Majority Caucus in the Parliament of Ghana has expressed deep shock and sorrow following the sudden passing of Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady of the Republic and wife of the late former President, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Caucus described the news of her passing as a great loss to the nation. The late Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings was also the mother of Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle Constituency and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Intelligence.
According to the statement, the Majority Caucus has been informed that the former First Lady passed away in the morning after a short illness.

“On behalf of the Majority Members of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, and the entire Parliament of Ghana, we extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and to the people of Ghana for this profound loss,” the statement said.
The Caucus further paid tribute to Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings for her significant contributions to national development, particularly her lifelong advocacy for women’s empowerment and social justice through the 31st December Women’s Movement.
“Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings paid her dues to this country. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations committed to public service and the advancement of women in leadership,” the statement added.
The Majority Caucus concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of her soul, describing her as a patriot whose life’s work left an indelible mark on Ghana’s history.
