One Arrested in Connection with Murder of Immigration Officer in Accra

The Accra Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the brutal murder of Stephen King Amoah, an Immigration Officer who was reported missing on July 4, 2025.

According to a police statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the officer’s burnt body was discovered on the morning of July 9 in a gutter near the GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate, Accra. The remains were immediately conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue for further investigation.

Despite the body being severely burnt, the deceased was positively identified by six relatives, who accompanied investigators from the Taifa Police to the morgue. Stephen King Amoah had been missing since the evening of July 3, when he left his residence at Ashongman Estate to meet a man identified as Bright Aweh. Prior to his disappearance, Amoah had reportedly received WhatsApp images of large bundles of cash from Aweh, who requested a meeting at a local spot to settle an outstanding financial matter.

Police investigations revealed that Aweh claimed to have handed over GHS 500,000.00 in cash to the deceased, instructing him to use part of the money to pay debts and hold the remainder for later collection. However, the suspect gave inconsistent accounts and failed to clearly explain the source of the funds during police interrogation.

The Police have since arrested Bright Aweh as the prime suspect in the case. The Command has strongly condemned the crime and assured the public that rigorous investigations are ongoing to uncover the full details behind the officer’s murder and bring all perpetrators to justice.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in the investigation. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact the nearest Police Station or call the emergency numbers 18555 or 192.

The tragic death of Stephen King Amoah has sent shockwaves through the security community, and the Police say they remain committed to ensuring justice is served.
