NIA Begins Registration of Children Aged 6–14 at Premium Centres Nationwide

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially commenced the registration of Ghanaian children aged between 6 and 14 years at all its Premium Centres across the country.

This initiative, according to the NIA, forms part of its legal mandate to ensure every Ghanaian, both at home and abroad, is issued with a secure and verifiable national identity. The move also represents a significant step toward building a comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR) that captures citizens from childhood.

Fees and Requirements

The Authority announced that the fee for first-time registration at Premium Centres remains GHS 310, in line with approved charges for premium services. Parents or legal guardians are required to present one of the following documents for their wards:

  • A valid Ghanaian passport of the child; or
  • The original copy of the child’s birth certificate; or
  • A Ghana Card holder parent or guardian who can vouch for the child.

Online Booking System Expanded

To enhance convenience, the NIA disclosed that beginning Monday, September 15, 2025, its online registration and appointment booking system will be extended to the 11 remaining Premium Centres nationwide. Applicants are encouraged to take advantage of this system to schedule their appointments smoothly and avoid unnecessary delays.

Issuance of Cards and Service Expansion

The Authority further assured the public that details regarding the issuance of Ghana Cards to children aged 6–14 who have already registered will be communicated in due course. Additionally, the NIA plans to extend these registration services to all District Offices in the coming weeks, making the process more accessible to applicants across the country.

The statement, signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of the Corporate Affairs Directorate, reaffirmed the NIA’s commitment to ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to a reliable national identity system.
