Nana Agradaa’s 15-Year Prison Sentence Reduced to 12 Months

The Amasaman High Court has reduced the 15-year prison sentence initially handed to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa to 12 calendar months, ruling that the earlier punishment was excessive.

While upholding her conviction, the court exercised its discretion to revise the sentence, stating that the original term of hard labour imposed by the trial court was disproportionate to the circumstances of the case. The revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025 — the date of her conviction — meaning she is expected to serve a total of one year in prison.

The court acknowledged that the offences warranted punishment but maintained that a reduced custodial term was more appropriate.

Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who later became an evangelist, was convicted of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. Prosecutors established that she used a televised broadcast in 2022 to claim she possessed spiritual powers capable of doubling money.

Several individuals reportedly gave her large sums of money believing the promises of miraculous financial returns, which were never fulfilled.
