Kumasi to Undergo Massive Clean-Up Ahead of Royal Visit by King of Eswatini

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced a city-wide clean-up exercise scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025, in anticipation of the high-profile visit of His Majesty King Mswati III, Head of State of the Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland).

The King is expected to arrive in Kumasi from June 24 to June 28, 2025, on a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

To prepare for this prestigious occasion, the KMA is calling on all residents, businesses, and stakeholders within the Kumasi metropolis to take part in the clean-up operation aimed at giving the city a sparkling and dignified appearance.

As part of the exercise, all shops and commercial establishments within the Central Business Districts (CBDs) are expected to close temporarily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday to allow for smooth and uninterrupted cleaning activities.

In a statement, the KMA emphasized that the initiative is not only about cleanliness but also about showcasing the rich hospitality and cultural pride of the Ashanti Region to the visiting monarch.

“We urge all residents and business operators to actively participate in this exercise. Let us come together to reflect the true spirit of Kumasi — a city of tradition, cleanliness, and unity,” the Assembly stated.

The visit by King Mswati III is expected to strengthen cultural and diplomatic ties between Eswatini and the Ashanti Kingdom, and the clean-up exercise stands as a symbol of Ghana’s readiness to receive royal dignitaries with dignity and pride.
