KMA and Rotary Club offer free breast and prostate cancer screening for market women

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International, has organised a free breast and prostate cancer screening exercise for traders at the Asafo Market in Kumasi.

The outreach programme, which formed part of the global Pink Month campaign, was held under the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives”.

The outreach programme was aimed at encouraging early diagnosis and raising awareness about the dangers of breast and prostate cancer.

The event attracted a large turnout of market women who took advantage of the opportunity to undergo free screening and receive vital health education from medical professionals.

It also sought to promote preventive healthcare and reduce the growing number of cancer-related deaths in the region.

Mrs. Raiza Baba, Assistant Director at KMA, speaking at the event, urged the market women to make regular medical check-ups a habit and not wait until symptoms appear before seeking medical attention.

She emphasized that while prayer and faith were important aspects of life, it was equally vital for individuals to take proactive steps in safeguarding their health through early detection and treatment.

Mrs. Baba expressed appreciation to the Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International for partnering with the Assembly to deliver such a life-saving initiative and called on the general public to take advantage of future screening exercises.

Mr. Avinash Lakhani, President of the Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International, reaffirmed the club’s commitment to sustaining such health programs beyond the Pink Month celebrations.

He noted that the club intended to extend similar screening and awareness exercises to other communities within and outside Kumasi to ensure that more people benefited from early diagnosis and education.

According to him, this initiative formed part of Rotary’s broader mission of promoting good health and community well-being.

The market women who benefited from the exercise expressed gratitude to both the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and the Rotary Club of Kumasi Premier International for bringing healthcare closer to them.

They described the exercise as timely and impactful, saying it had encouraged them to prioritize their health and embrace early screening practices.
