Journalist Assaulted by Police Officer at Ablekuma North Rerun

Tensions flared during the parliamentary election rerun in Ablekuma North as a journalist from the EIB Network was reportedly slapped by a police officer at the Church of Pentecost, North Odorkor 2 polling station.

The incident, which has sparked outrage, is being condemned as an attack on press freedom. Calls are mounting for the officer involved to be suspended and investigated.

Many, including EIB colleague Akua Oteng Amponsah, are demanding swift action from the Ghana Police Service, stating that journalists in Ghana deserve better protection, especially during critical democratic processes.

The Ghana Police Service has yet to comment on the incident
