Former Vice President Bawumia Inspires African Students at Cambridge Business Conference

Former Vice President of Ghana and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, delivered a powerful keynote at the 2025 African Business Conference hosted by African students at the University of Cambridge, urging the continent’s youth to take charge of Africa’s digital and economic transformation.

In a rousing address to students, academics, and young professionals, Dr. Bawumia challenged African scholars to rise above limitations and champion the continent’s global projection. “Africa does not lack innovation. We lack systems that scale it. We do not lack ideas. We lack ecosystems that reward and retain them. We do not lack ambition. We lack access to capital, infrastructure, and trust,” he emphasized.

The former Vice President praised the students for their insights and experiences, describing the engagement as “thrilling” and rich with potential for Africa’s economic emancipation. He urged attendees to harness the current digital revolution to create inclusive systems that will redefine Africa’s future.

“We must build a future where a tech start-up in Nairobi can serve a client in São Paulo, and a shea butter cooperative in Tamale can sell directly to Tokyo using blockchain,” Dr. Bawumia envisioned. “Africa’s innovations should no longer be seen as exceptions—but as expectations.”

Calling for deliberate and united action, he concluded: “Africa’s digital future is not pre-determined. We must forge it, deliberately, boldly, together, and now.”

The event, a key highlight on the African diaspora academic calendar, gathered top thinkers and leaders from across the continent and beyond to explore business, leadership, and innovation strategies aimed at accelerating Africa’s development.
