Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Passes Away at 76

Former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has passed away at the Ridge Hospital in Accra at the age of 76.

According to family sources, she died on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Nana Konadu, the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a towering figure in Ghanaian politics and a passionate advocate for women’s rights and empowerment. She served as First Lady from 1979 to 2001, during which she championed numerous initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of women and children.

In 2016, she made history by becoming the first woman to contest the presidency in Ghana’s democratic era, running on the ticket of the National Democratic Party (NDP), which she founded.

Her passing has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from across Ghana and beyond, with many describing her as a trailblazer, a strong leader, and a symbol of resilience.
