The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has met with the family of the late Nana Agyei Ahyia to brief them on steps taken by the Government of Ghana following his tragic death.
In a meeting held earlier today at the Foreign Ministry, the Minister formally conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and outlined a series of diplomatic and investigative interventions undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Mr. Ablakwa, a fact-finding mission was promptly dispatched from Ghana’s embassy in Germany, which holds concurrent accreditation to Latvia, to gather information surrounding the circumstances of Nana Agyei’s death. The mission has since submitted a preliminary report to the Ministry.

The Minister further disclosed that Latvian authorities have confirmed investigations are still ongoing, and no final conclusions have yet been reached. In response, he has formally notified the Latvian government of his decision to personally travel to Latvia to engage his counterpart and interact directly with investigators handling the case.
Mr. Ablakwa announced that his delegation to Latvia will include representatives of the late Nana Agyei Ahyia’s family, ensuring transparency and family involvement in the process. Additionally, the Government of Ghana plans to engage independent experts to review all investigative reports, including the anticipated final report from Latvian authorities, to guide further action in the pursuit of justice.
Reaffirming government’s commitment, the Minister stated that all steps being taken are in the best interest of justice and accountability, pledging continued engagement until the matter is fully resolved.
He concluded the engagement with the message, “For God and Country,” underscoring Ghana’s resolve to protect the rights and dignity of its citizens abroad
