In a bid to tackle filth in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, the Environmental Health Department of the Assembly over the weekend embarked on a clean-up exercise in Nsuaem.
The residents, who participated actively in the exercise, closed their shops and halted businesses for sometime to ensure that the work was completed first.
They cleared choked gutters, weeded, swept along the road, and collected refuse, which was carried away for disposal by waste management trucks.

Mr Ebenezer Cobbinah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa Nsuaem, in a brief remark, lauded the residents for their massive turnout, and underscored the need for a collaborative effort to maintain cleanliness.
He reminded residents to adhere strictly to the Assembly’s sanitation by-laws and warned that those who failed to comply would be put before court for prosecution.
Mr Alex Damtey, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, said following the President’s directive to observe the National Sanitation Day every first week of the month, the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly decided to rotate the event within the municipality.
He said they had the first clean-up exercise in Tarkwa, and the assembly decided to hold the second one in Nsuaem because it was the next biggest community within the municipality.
“It was amazing to see so many people join the clean-up exercise. The drains were cleared, and waste was removed, making a huge difference. We appreciate everyone’s effort and hope we can keep it up,” Mr Damtey stated.
He said the next community that might hold the clean-up exercise would be Nsuta zonal council and called on the residents in the area to show up, just as they had in Nsuaem.
Mr Prosper Agbeti, Assembly member of Nsuaem Zongo Electoral Area, stressed that, “Let’s not limit cleaning to just one day in a month.
The assembly can organize the monthly clean-up exercise, but ideally, everyone in Nsuaem and the municipality should make cleanliness a daily habit”
