Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah has warned that recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is not for sale and urged prospective candidates to ignore payment demands.
Speaking to the media at the Army Recruit Training School (ARTS), Shai Hills, following a working visit to One Garrison in Tema, Dr Boamah urged them to report such demands to the police, as they are fraudulent.
“If anyone tells you to pay money to be recruited into the armed forces, you are being deceived because that person can never help you. Instead, report such persons to the police to have them face the law.
“The right thing to do as a prospective recruit is to look out for genuine advertisements and check whether you meet the criteria or qualify before you apply,” he said.
He emphasised that individuals promising enlistment in exchange for money should be reported to the police, as such claims are fraudulent.
Dr Boamah also announced plans to recruit and train an additional 12,000 personnel at ARTS and the military academy, in efforts to decentralise the recruitment process across all regions.
“We are working to take the recruitment to all the various regions so each will get its fair share, so it does not look like we are only recruiting from one part of the country.”
Addressing a failed recruitment exercise from 2021, which was halted due to lack of financial clearance, the Minister indicated that the process may be scrapped and restarted.
During his tour of ARTS facilities, Dr Boamah pledged to address logistical and infrastructural challenges to improve training conditions for army recruits.
