Damage on transmission line plunges Sogakope into darkness….GRIDCo assures residents of swift restoration

Residents of Sogakope and its surrounding communities were left without power on Sunday, October 26, 2025, following damage to a key transmission line serving the area.

In a statement issued by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), the incident occurred at 16:01 hours, causing a power outage that has affected several communities connected to the Sogakope supply network.

According to GRIDCo, its line maintenance team has already been mobilised to assess and repair the damage in order to restore power as soon as possible. The company expressed regret over the disruption and extended an apology to all affected residents for the inconvenience caused.

“GRIDCo sincerely apologises to all affected residents for the inconvenience caused by this incident,” the statement read.

The Ghana Grid Company Limited, established in December 2006, is responsible for the transmission and economic dispatching of electricity from independent power producers and other wholesale suppliers to bulk customers and distribution utilities across Ghana and the West African sub-region. The company officially began operations on August 1, 2008, following the transfer of the Transmission System Department and staff from the Volta River Authority (VRA).

GRIDCo currently operates the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS), transmitting electricity to 33 bulk customers and distribution utilities from 11 wholesale suppliers.

Residents of Sogakope are hopeful that power will be restored soon as maintenance works continue.
