The Government of Ghana has imposed a curfew on Binduri Township and its surrounding communities in the Upper East Region, effective Monday, March 24, 2025. The curfew, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily, was announced by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), following recommendations from the Upper East and North East Regional Security Councils.
The decision comes in response to growing security concerns in the area. In a statement issued from Accra, the Minister called for calm and urged residents to prioritize peace and cooperation during this period of heightened tension.
“The government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and the people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them,” the statement read. “We encourage the use of non-violent means to resolve differences and maintain peace in the region.”
In addition to the curfew, a total ban has been placed on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within the township and its environs. The ban also prohibits the wearing of smocks, the riding of motorbikes, and any activities deemed likely to escalate tensions.
Authorities have warned that any individuals found in possession of arms or engaging in prohibited activities will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The curfew is part of broader efforts by the government to restore peace and security in Binduri and its surrounding communities. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activity as the situation is closely monitored.
