The Action Group for Development of Kadjebi-Akan, a pressure group, in collaboration with the Chiefs and the District Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit, has mobilised residents of Kadjebi township to embark on a communal labour exercise to clear weeds at the public cemetery.
The two-hour exercise drew participation from the Kadjebi Central, Dubonku, Freetown, and Estate/Zongo Electoral Areas.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Wofa Taye, Leader, Action Group for Development of Kadjebi-Akan, said the initiative was aimed at complementing the efforts of the District Assembly since development is a shared responsibility.

He explained that residents could not continue to sit aloof and expect the Assembly to do everything for them, hence the mobilisation drive.
He added that the exercise would be made regular and not a “nine-day wonder.”
Wofa Taye, also Spokesperson for the group, said the group also helped in the renovation of bungalow for the Physician Assistant (PA) of the Kadjebi Health Centre, clearing of Kadjebi market, Police Station, among others and that more projects would be executed.
He said the development of Kadjebi-Akan was their prime concern and interest and urged the government to help develop Kadjebi-Akan to befit district capital since they have been neglected for far too long.
Mr. Isaac Abavon, Assembly Member for Dubonku Electoral Area, told GNA that it was the duty of Assembly Members to mobilize their electorates for such communal activities.
He therefore joined in the exercise and encouraged his colleagues to do the same.
Mr. Abavon also appealed to residents to keep their surroundings clean and tidy to safeguard their health and wellbeing.
Some participants who spoke with GNA expressed joy over the communal labour and urged the organisers to make it a quarterly event to ensure continuous improvement of the community’s environment.
