Cameroonian National Arrested in Major Internet Fraud and Human Trafficking Bust in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old Cameroonian woman, Bella Merie, in connection with a large-scale internet fraud and human trafficking operation. The arrest took place on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in Kenyasi Abrem, a community in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Ghana Police Service, Bella Merie was apprehended alongside forty-three (43) other Cameroonian nationals—thirty-two males and eleven females—who were allegedly lured into Ghana under the false promise of employment. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect collected a total of 4.5 million CFA Francs from the victims as part of the fraudulent scheme.

Authorities revealed that the scam was conducted through a notorious internet-based operation known as Q-NET, which has been linked to several job scam cases across the region. Victims, aged between 22 and 38, were reportedly held at a residence while awaiting nonexistent job placements.

Following the arrests, all individuals, including the suspect and the victims, have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service at the Regional Headquarters to begin immigration processing and repatriation to Cameroon.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its dedication to combating internet fraud and protecting both citizens and foreign nationals. The Service further encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious recruitment offers or activities that may involve human trafficking or cybercrime.
