Bono Minister commends management of Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital

Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboah, the Bono Regional Minister has commended the management of the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital for their excellent healthcare service delivery in the Dormaa Municipality and beyond.

He also lauded the immense contributions of Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, the Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area for his support towards the growth and development of the facility.

The Regional Minister gave the commendation when speaking at a durbar to climax the 70th anniversary celebration of the hospital at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

Mr Akwaboah acknowledged that some initiatives and projects implemented by the hospital authorities had improved quality healthcare services, assuring of the government’s commitment to support the hospital to deliver excellent services to improve the health status of the people.

He said the establishment of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahamacare) would provide free medication to ailments like cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases free of charge under the National Health Insurance Scheme.

He said the Fund had made a list of all essential medical equipment that would be installed at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.

Mr Akwaboah expressed the worry that HIV and AIDS prevalence in the region remained higher, with the Dormaa East District topping the list of districts.

He advised the people to always protect themselves from new HIV infections, urging persons living with HIV and AIDS to adopt healthy lifestyles and take their medication regularly to prolong their lives.

The Regional Minister emphasised that it was an offence to possess firearms without license, saying the Ministry of Interior would soon commence an exercise to register and license firearms and urged those without the license to return the firearms.

Dr Peter Yeboah, the Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), said the hospital was one of the health establishments providing primary healthcare services, which remained a vital national health instrument for health diplomacy, extending its services to nationals from Cote d’Ivoire.

“The hospital also has Presbyterian Midwifery Training College that trains nurses and midwives for the entire country,” he stated, and called on the government to strengthen its partnership with the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

He said the church was ready to partner with the government for the construction and completion of the abandoned agenda 111 district hospitals.

The Reverend Benjamin Appiah, the Chairman of the Brong-Ahafo Presbytery, commended the management of the hospital for their services and pledged the church’s continuous support in delivering quality healthcare services.

Rev Appiah said the church was executing similar health projects at Bolgatanga, Bawku, Salaga, Afram Plains, Sandema, Tamale and Enchi, saying a new health facility being put up at Tano Boase was nearing completion.

He said the church had 62 health facilities with over 4000 staff nationwide providing quality healthcare service delivery in the country.
