Z-9 Helicopter Crash Probe Officially Begins

The Ministry of Defence has announced that the official Investigation Board set up to look into the recent crash of a Z-9 military helicopter has formally begun its work.

The Board, chaired by the National Security Coordinator, comprises representatives from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

In addition, the United States of America is supporting the process by providing technical advice through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force. The Board also has the mandate to invite other relevant experts and institutions, both local and international, to assist with the inquiry.

It will be recalled that following the tragic crash on August 6, 2025, a preliminary investigation team was immediately constituted to gather evidence to aid the Board’s work. That team is expected to present its findings to the Board today.

According to the Ministry, the Investigation Board has been tasked to complete its work within 30 days, after which its findings and recommendations will be made public.
