Wontumi TV Issues Public Apology to Mahama, NDC Over Unfounded Crash Allegations

Wontumi TV has issued an unreserved public apology to former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the general public following comments made by one of its presenters linking the former president to the recent tragic military helicopter crash.

In a statement released by management, the station distanced itself from remarks made by on-air presenter Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare on Saturday, 9th August 2025, stressing that his comments did not reflect the views, policy, or editorial stance of Wontumi TV.

“The statement was inappropriate, unfounded, and contrary to our station’s values of professionalism, accuracy, and fairness in broadcasting,” the management said, adding that the allegations were made without evidence and were inconsistent with the station’s commitment to credible journalism.

Wontumi TV expressed deep regret for any distress or reputational damage caused to the former president, the NDC, and the bereaved families affected by the tragic crash.

The management further disclosed that disciplinary action would be taken against the presenter in question and that editorial guidelines had been reinforced to ensure all on-air content was based on verified facts and credible sources.

“As a responsible media house, we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of journalism and ethical broadcasting,” the statement emphasized.

Wontumi TV also extended condolences to the families of the victims of the crash and called for unity and sensitivity in discussing matters of national grief.
