In the wake of the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians earlier today, Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has led a high-level government delegation to officially inform and console the bereaved families.
Accompanied by senior government officials, national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and representatives of the Military High Command, the Vice President personally visited the homes of Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, and Alhaji Muniru Lumuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, both of whom perished in the crash.
In a show of solidarity and empathy, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia led a separate team to Koforidua to meet with the family and mother of the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Ghana’s Minister for Defence and a respected statesman.

According to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP and Spokesperson to the President, two additional government teams have been dispatched to Takoradi, Kumasi, and other parts of the country to extend condolences to the families of the other victims, including:
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC
- Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director General of NADMO
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo, all members of the Ghana Armed Forces
Today’s visits formed part of an official government effort to honour the memories of the fallen and offer comfort and support to their grieving relatives.
The eight individuals lost their lives when a military helicopter went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Ghana continues to mourn this immense national loss as preparations for state-assisted funerals are expected to be announced in the coming days.
