The Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana and its affiliates have joined the nation in mourning the tragic loss of eight Ghanaians who perished in a military helicopter crash near Adane Sikaman, close to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement signed by Joshua Ansah, Secretary General of TUC (Ghana), the union expressed shock and deep sorrow over the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6. The crash claimed the lives of key figures in government, politics, and the military.
The victims have been named as:

- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
- Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
- Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala – Pilot
- Flying Officer Twum Ampadu – Co-pilot
- Sergeant Ernest Addo – Flight Engineer
The TUC described the tragedy as “a great loss not only to their families and loved ones, but also to the Government and people of Ghana.” The statement paid tribute to the victims for their dedicated service to the nation and acknowledged the irreplaceable void their passing has left.
“We honour their dedicated service to the nation and pray for strength and comfort for all who mourn,” the TUC noted.
The labour union added its voice to the national chorus of grief and solidarity, as Ghana grapples with one of the most devastating losses of state officials and servicemen in recent history.
The TUC concluded the message with a solemn prayer:
“May their souls rest with the Lord.”
Investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to commence, as the nation awaits funeral arrangements for the departed.
