Three Nigerian Nationals Jailed for Vehicle Theft in Kumasi

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the successful conviction of three Nigerian nationals involved in a series of vehicle thefts across the Kumasi Metropolis.

The suspects, Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze — were arrested on June 20, 2025, after a police operation targeted their theft activities.

On July 22, 2025, the trio appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court. During the proceedings, Ekenze pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL). His accomplices, Friday and Agwazie, pleaded not guilty and their cases were adjourned.

The following day, July 23, 2025, Circuit Court 3 found Friday and Agwazie guilty on two counts and sentenced each of them to 8 years IHL, with the terms running concurrently. On the same day, Circuit Court 1 also handed down 20-year IHL sentences to all three suspects on two counts, also to run concurrently.

On July 24, 2025, Circuit Court 2 further convicted Ekenze, giving him an additional 10-year IHL sentence on two counts, which will run concurrently with his earlier sentence.

The three convicts are currently serving their sentences at the Kumasi Central Prison.

Police authorities said the outcome demonstrates their commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that criminal elements — especially those engaged in organized and transnational crimes — face the full weight of the law.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has encouraged the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities.
