Upper West Regional Police Secure 7-Year Jail Term for Child Defilement Offender
The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured a significant victory in the fight against child abuse, following the conviction of a 31-year-old man for defilement by the Wa Circuit Court.
The convicted individual, Issahaku Waris, a resident of Wa Zongo, was found guilty of defiling a 5-year-old girl on Thursday, April 24, 2025. The court, presided over by His Lordship Jonathan Avoogo, sentenced Waris to seven (7) years imprisonment on Friday, July 18, 2025.
According to the police, Waris was apprehended just two days after the incident, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, by officers from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
