UPPER WEST POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTS IN CONNECTION WITH SERIAL MURDERS IN WA

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects believed to be behind a series of gruesome murders that have terrorised the Wa Municipality and parts of the Upper West Region since 2021. The suspects, identified as Sherif Abdulai, a 30-year-old ex-convict, and Mahamuda Lamin, aged 25, were picked up on October 3 and October 6, 2025, respectively, following intensive intelligence and investigative operations by the police. Their arrest followed the killing of Mr. Issah Yahaya, a 55-year-old night security guard, at Wa-Dobile on September 21, 2025. Ministry Launches Girls-In-ICT Training of Trainers in Upper West Region (Wa)

‎‎The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has commenced the Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop under the National Girls-in-ICT Programme with the aim of equipping 100 teachers with ICT skills.‎‎The training, which runs from 18th to 22nd September 2025, is being held at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies in Wa.‎‎The selected teachers, drawn from all 11 districts of the Upper West Region, will undergo intensive sessions in digital skills and computer literacy.‎‎After the one-week programme, the teachers are expected to transfer the knowledge gained to 1,000 selected girls from Primary Four to Junior High School across the region.‎‎The initiative is designed not only to bridge the digital gender divide but also to inspi...

UPPER WEST POLICE SECURE 18-YEAR CONVICTION FOR NOTORIOUS ARMED ROBBER

The Upper West Regional Police Command has successfully secured the conviction of a notorious armed robber, Adinan Mahmoud, also known by the alias “Okra”, following a string of armed robbery incidents in the region. Mahmoud, 25, was arrested on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at his hideout in Sandemuni, a suburb of the Wa Municipality. His apprehension came as a result of a series of intelligence-led operations spearheaded by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate. On Monday, June 2, 2025, he was arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Jonathan Avoogo. MTN marks Valentine’s Day with blood donation in UWR

Ghana’s telecommunication giant, MTN Ghana, has organised a blood donation exercise in the Upper West Region to beef up the blood banks in the region as an expression of love to humanity on Valentine’s Day. The exercise was held at the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) and SDD University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in Wa, and the St. Francis Assisi Girls’ Senior High School in Jirapa concurrently. The exercise produced 203 units of blood, which would be stocked at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Jirapa and the Wa Municipal and Upper West Regional Hospitals in Wa.
