According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred on August 6, 2025, when the suspects, traveling in a green pickup truck, intercepted a fuel tanker with registration number GT 2493-20. They allegedly handcuffed the driver and his mate, placed them in the pickup, and drove the tanker away. Police say that on August 7, 2025, personnel in the Accra Region intercepted the pickup and rescued the victims. One suspect, identified as Christian Bortey Bernard, was arrested after a hot chase.
