Nigerian gets 12 months for identity falsification

The Tema District Court has sentenced a Nigerian national to 12 months' imprisonment in hard labour for attempting to unlawfully acquire a Ghanaian passport. Mohammed Ogbona, alias Mohammed Alhassan, also faced additional convictions for unlawful entry and the illegal acquisition of a Ghanaian birth certificate and National Identification Card. Presiding Judge Madam Benedicta Antwi convicted Ogbona following his guilty plea, imposing fines of 200 penalty units (GHC2,400.00) each for attempting to obtain a Ghanaian passport and National ID by false declaration. Nigerian hairdresser sentenced to five years for trafficking women  

The Achimota Circuit Court has sentenced Nicky Isabella, a 22-year-old hairdresser, to five years imprisonment for trafficking two young Nigerian women to Ghana.   Isabella, popularly known as Bella, lured the victims to Ghana under the pretext of offering jobs but forced them into prostitution upon arrival.    She was convicted after a full trial presided over by Mrs. Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong.   The victims, aged 22 and 23, were promised jobs at a supermarket in Adjiringanor, Accra.  Instead, Isabella allegedly seized their earnings and made them swear an oath on a Bible, cutting pieces of their pubic hair and threatening to use them in rituals if they disobeyed her orders.   The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police...

Three ladies with concealed methamphetamine in suitcases remanded

An Accra High Court has remanded into lawful custody two South Africans and a Nigerian accused of possessing over 16 kg of methamphetamine, a narcotic drug. This follows their arrest at the Kotoka International Airport on January 20, 2025, by officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC). The accused persons (names withheld) are alleged to have concealed the drugs in two suitcases. The Court presided over by Justice Mrs Kizita Koowa Quarshie remanded the accused, all females, to reappear on February 11, 2025. It, however, did not take their pleas as the fact and charges were also not read out. Additionally, the trial judge asked the accused persons to secure lawyers to defend them in court.
