Dispute over chieftaincy stool: Tight security in Kwahu

National Security is beefing up security in Kwahu in the wake of the ruling by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs in the matter relating to the occupancy of the Kwahu stool.  The purported destoolment of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II from the Kwahuman stool and the subsequent enstoolment of Baffour Akoto Osei in his place are said to have raised tensions in the area. Unimpeachable sources have informed the Daily Graphic that National Security has subsequently instructed the Eastern Regional Security Council to conduct 24-hour surveillance in the area, particularly around the Abene Palace in the traditional area. National Security seizes stash of US dollars, gold bars/counterfeit currency in warehouse   

The National Security has busted and seized a large, unspecified amount of United States dollars and Ghana Cedis, including counterfeits, hidden in 12  20-footer shipping containers.    A statement issued by the National Security, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the containers were tracked to a warehouse in Ofankor, Ga South Municipality, where a special operation was conducted after a tip-off.   It noted that the cleverly concealed currency, mostly bundles of US dollars, was found in wooden boxes filled with cement.    It said other boxes opened in the warehouse during the sting operation revealed extra currencies stashed in the boxes that were barricaded with plywood and ceiled with charcoal.    According to the ...

Kofi Boakye, Gbevlo-Lartey named in Mahama’s interim National Security team, Prosper Bani leads

President-elect John Mahama has appointed a six-member team to oversee the national security of the state in the interim, pending substantive appointments. In a press release issued by Mr Mahama’s special aide, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, it was announced that the team will be led by Prosper Douglas Ban, a former Minister for the Interior. Other members of the team include: Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.), former Chief of Defence Staff, Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for National Security, Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq., former National Security Coordinator, Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrissu (Rtd.) and COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd.)
